Hello lovelies! So I know that I’ve been quite off-the-radar so far this year, I think I’ve only uploaded 3 posts; a fact which I can’t say I’m desperately proud of. Therefore, I’ll just be doing a short life update today to catch you guys up on what I’ve been doing.
*Also just wanted to mention that as I sit typing this on Easter Monday with a cuppa, I’m watching Seaspiracy on Netflix in the background. I literally keep having to pause with horror at some of the facts and figures they’re throwing at me. But more on that later!
I suppose this first one can’t be too surprising, seeing as I have been quite absent in recent months. I’ve been trying to overcome this awful case of writer’s block, which started around the end of Blogmas.
It’s such a frustrating notion, yet because it’s a creative activity it’s not something that I can just force myself to do when I feel like I’m severely lacking motivation. Of course things would be different if I were relying on this blog as some form of income, and I commend those who’ve been able to carry on writing consistently throughout this pandemic. I, however, decided to not be too hard on myself and not to force creativity because I know what I’m like and I think I’d come to resent writing altogether.
I’m sure my blogging schedule will get back on track when I can actually go out and do things again. But all I’ve done of late is work, watch tv, and head out for walks occasionally, which hasn’t left me feeling particularly inspired.
Moving onto a more exciting life update… a week ago today I received my second dose of the covid vaccination! For anyone wondering, I was offered the vaccine as I work for the NHS at my local hospital. I’m so impressed by how many people the UK has been able to vaccinate, with over half of the adult population now having received their first dose.
I’m sure it won’t be long until everyone in the country has been vaccinated, so remain patient and stay positive. Better days are coming.
Travel Plans and New Side Hustle
Upcoming Travel Plans
As it stands I currently have no official travel plans whatsoever. But that’s not to say I don’t have a tonne of ideas in mind. Obviously the first place we’d love to go would be back to Australia so that we can spend some time with my boyfriend’s family. Lockdown has also given us plenty of time to put together ideas for a massive Japan trip, with a couple of days in Seoul thrown in there as well.
My sister Jess and I also have some incredible travel plans in the works too! Still very eager to head to New York City after our trip was cancelled due to covid, plus we’ve got new plans to cover Vietnam and Cambodia, perhaps in 2023?
In terms of city/mini breaks, top of my current bucket list would be Malta, Poland, Portugal or any of the Scandinavian countries.
New Side Hustle on Fiverr
Another little life update for you is that I recently took the plunge and decided to market my services on Fiverr. We know that I’m no stranger to planning holidays. WELL after years of friends/family telling me to plan other people’s trips, I decided to give it a go.
I’ve offered 3 separate packages where I can research and organise a detailed itinerary for a country/countries of your choice. Then I send through all the information and all the customer has to do is book! To find my gig, click here: https://www.fiverr.com/emmachats1/create-a-customised-itinerary-for-your-dream-trip
Wisdom Tooth Removal
A couple of days ago I had my first ever dental procedure. I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve never even had a filling yet, so to say I was nervous is a slight understatement. Thankfully, the whole procedure only took about 5 minutes which certainly surprised me.
Pain management has been a bit of a struggle; I don’t think I’ve ever consumed so many McDonald’s milkshakes in the space of a few days, but the soothing effect they provide eliminates any guilt I could possibly feel.
What I’ve Been Watching
The final life update worth mentioning would have to be the tv shows and films I’ve been enjoying lately. I won’t go into crazy detail, but as I’ve spent the majority of my time in front of the tv recently, might as well share with you what I’ve enjoyed.
Going back to what I was saying about Seaspiracy… I’d never realised quite how important dolphins and whales were to the planet and keeping the oceans alive. Feeling guilty about my ignorance, I’ve just been researching marine conservation volunteer programmes. I literally just came across an organisation online called The Mighty Roar. It has all sorts of volunteering projects around the world. I’ll link them here so you can check them out; but one that particularly appeals to me now is the Tenerife Dolphin and Whale Conservation: https://themightyroar.com/projects/tenerife-dolphin-whale-conservation. I’d definitely recommend this documentary, it was really eye-opening and thought-provoking.
Now I won’t go into detail on every documentary I’ve watched, but for anyone looking for recommendations, I can happily suggest:
- Notre Dame: Race Against the Inferno
- Expedition Amelia – (Into the disappearance of Amelia Earhart)
- Europe from Above
- Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel
When my wisdom tooth was removed, I relied on Nicholas Sparks films to distract me and keep me company. It worked to an extent haha, the predictable storylines and familiar faces in the casts was a good comfort.
- Lost – literally obsessed.
- Fringe – Had to find ourselves another J. J. Abrams show for when we finish Lost.
- Dawson’s Creek – my guilty pleasure show.
- Bridgerton – Can’t wait for season 2. I binged this in 2 days.
If you’ve stuck with me this far, then thank you so much for reading! I know it’s been a slow start to the year where the blog is concerned, but I truly appreciate the patience and support.
